Very rare; in grassy banks; flowers in May.
In 1960 A.J.B. Brilli-Cattarini collected a specimen for the herbarium
PESA at the Centro Ricerche Floristiche Marche from a population on the
Colle San Bartolo north of Pesaro. In 1980 he also found it near Fano on
the banks of the river Metauro. Eight years later I found a
small population inland near Sant'Ippolito (Fossombrone), and in 1989 a
small group of plants just south of Gabicce on Colle San Bartolo. At
these sites no plants been found since. In 1965 A.J.B. Brilli-Cattarini
found a few plants In the south of the Marche in the
surroundings of Torre di Palma and near Grottamare. I am not
aware of recent records for this area.
S. parviflora was found by
Benigni and Fabrizi in the Gola della Rossa (AN) on 28 April
2008.
On 11 May 2010 I found S.
vomeracea growing in the roadside edges near the Passo del Furlo. Mimmo
Rossi, who visited the site days later, drew my attention to the fact
that there was one minute individual amongst them. This turned out to be
a specimen of S. parviflora. About 10 plants were found upon careful
searching of the area.
It was found on M. Conero
on 20 May 2010 by Alessandro Camilletti (see photos). This seems to be the
first record for M. Conero and for the Province of Ancona.
Two plants were found
and photographed near Urbino in May 2011. Careful searching in
the area did not reveal further individuals.
